Residency Program Itegrated Pathway

The Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center has a five-year integrated plastic surgery residency. Outstanding medical students who have focused their surgical direction toward plastic surgery may apply for this integrated plastic surgery training program. Successful applicants are accepted at the PGY1 level at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In concert with the Department of General Surgery, the first three years consist of specifically tailored general/specialty surgery rotations, preparatory for a career in plastic surgery. The first three years of training meet the requirements for general surgery stipulated by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. and approved by the Committee on Credentials, as well as the Residency Review Committee on Plastic Surgery.

Upon completion of the required general surgery training, the resident progresses directly into the plastic surgery residency for a two-year (PGY4 and PGY5) experience in the full spectrum of plastic surgery.
